Back in 2018, I used to think that starting an online business takes a lot of time and requires a lot of money and that is the mindset a lot of people still have. But 2 years down the line after trying out lots of online business models I can confidently say it is not difficult and in some cases, it cost you $0.

 

And when you own an online business, you can work from any location in the world, have more time for yourself, friends and family, better income stability and able to provide a better quality lifestyle for your self and others.

 

5 SIMPLE STEPS TO STARTING AN ONLINE BUSINESS.

1- FIND YOUR NICHE: Look around you and come up with 3 potential ideas that can provide solutions to existing problems. These ideas could be providing a particular service to some category of people, filling a need or selling particular categories of products online.

 

2- CONDUCT MARKET RESEARCH: Once you have decided on your niche, you need to make research on your products or services. 

Your research is basically on how and where to source for the products, what category of people are the products meant for, where do they hang out online and how can you reach out to them. 

 

3- TEST YOUR IDEAL: It is very important to test our idea before we start marketing online. The best and recommended way is to share your product or services with family and friends. The reason being, you would want to get peoples reaction, recommendation and feedback.

 Once you’ve tested your idea and gathered some information and feedback then you can document those as part of your business plan.

 

4- PREPARE YOUR SOCIAL PLATFORM:  This is one of the most important set up in your business, your social platform can be a website, e-commerce store, blog, your social media handles like Facebook or Instagram. 

You must not own a website to start an online business, you can start with what you have which in most cases is social media page. All we need is a platform with a large volume of an active audience. 

 

5- GET EDUCATED BEFORE YOU START: You might wonder why I put this point as the 5th and last step? 

A lot of people preach you don’t need to learn before starting, while a lot preach of the get money quick scheme with little or no knowledge.   

I have been doing online business with a steady income for the past 2 years, I have also been an employee for the past 10years and with experience, I have learnt that anything worth doing is worth doing well. 

If you want to excel in any online business model even with $0 start-up capital, you need to be properly educated. 

Also, you need the opportunity to be in a community with like-minded people where you can learn new opportunities and share ideas. 

 

In this digital Journey, I have tried the “do it your self” method which I got slow painful results that cost me more time, money, efforts with tons of daily frustration until I enrolled myself and business with a digital academy, where I was taught comprehensive step by step of starting an online business, I have access to different coaches in different business models and free access to big online learning platforms like LinkedIn learning.
